Breast reduction is associated with one of the highest patient satisfaction rates in all of plastic surgery. Its purpose is to reduce the heaviness of very large breasts and re-shape them into a firmer, lifted breast. This is not a breast lift, or mastopexy, although it does incorporate lifting of the breast as a major component. The purpose of this operation is to relieve the pain in the neck, upper back and shoulders as well as grooving from the bra straps that occur as a consequence of very large breast size. If you have been suffering from these symptoms due to breast size and are in reasonably good health, it is likely that you could benefit substantially from a breast reduction. This operation, in addition to significantly improving neck and back discomfort, can be very liberating for patients, allowing them to engage in activities that they were previously inhibited from engaging in due to the size of their breasts.
Many insurance plans have provisions to cover this procedure if the patient's breast size is large enough. Some plans specifically do not cover this operation. If you think you might benefit from breast reduction, let us consult with you and determine your eligibility. We handle the pre-certification work with the insurance company.
