The eyes are the windows to the soul, our emotions and the first point of contact in communication. Eyes that are free of distractions and heavy, loose skin more easily transmit the range of our emotions. Heavy appearing eyes are often inappropriately felt to portray upset, angry or intense feelings. Eyelid surgery is designed to address both the excess skin of the upper and lower lids as well as some protruding of the fat pads around the eye that may lead to puffy appearance of the lids. This puffy look may, in turn, produce or accentuate dark circles under the eyes.
Eyelid surgery in the appropriate surgical candidate can be an exceptionally rewarding, rejuvenating experience. If one is a good candidate for a facelift also, eyelid surgery should be seriously considered in addition to the facelift in order to obtain a more balance, harmonious look.
The brow lift is designed to treat eyebrows that are low and scowling or angry in appearance. It also will treat deep vertical lines between the brows and horizontal lines across the forehead. The procedure may be done through a traditional, "open" approach (better for lowering the position of the hairline in patients who have high ones) or through the endoscope from incisions placed in the hair-bearing scalp.
This procedure is seldom done alone. Usually the patient is also an excellent candidate for surgery to the eyelids themselves and, possibly, a facelift as well. Using these procedures in combination renders a more balanced appearance to the face.
